larger gm tranny cooler

I have searched the forums and I have found very little info on this. I was looking at my dads 03 dmax tranny cooler and comparing it to my 05 z71's cooler. It looks like it mounts the same but are the fittings the same and are the lines ran the same? At 15000 I will be flushing the tranny and this would be as good of time as any to do the swap. I have 3.42 gears and i am looking to keep the tranny cool as possible when pulling my 20' enclosed. Acts as a sail. Will this work? If so are 3/4 and 1 ton coolers the same? Thanks.

I would check what your trailer weighs loaded and check max. towable GVW of your truck with 3.42 gears. You may have to go to 3.73 or 4.11 to tow a 20' trailer.

It pulls just fine at 70 about 2600 rpm in drive(3). Just a box enclosed tandem axle with 3-4 quads in it and some gear. Probably 2000 to 2500 lbs in gear, not sure on trailer weight. Couldnt hurt to get a bigger cooler on it. Just wondering if it will match up.

 

Also what all would I need to order to swap out gears. I wouldnt mind 4.10's. Anybody have part numbers from gmpartsdirect.com?

No one ever looked or considered doing this....unless the connections are different it looks like a direct swap. I guess I will be the first

I thought the tranny coolers were the same size in the 1500 - 3500. I added the GM OEM cooler/line kit to my 4.8L 4L60E tranny. Man, that was a chore. I think it will pay good dividends later though. Plus the OEM kit (lines, cooler) was only 99 bucks!
