Coolant question

I've got the 5.3L engine, and a few days ago, I noticed the coolant level was just a little under the resevoir's seem.  If I remember right, that's about an inch under the "cold engine full."  BTW my engine was COLD say 0-10F cold.  I noticed this a while back.  For some reason Thanksgiving sounds about right.......ahhh here we go

I filled it up then.  I drive a lot.....say 350miles a week.  I'm sure engine use has something to do with accelerating the use.  But I don't think it should use any.  It's a closed system isn't it?

I'm going to check it when I get off work.  Any input is welcome.  Thanks

The coolant use (Dexcool) is correct for these vehicles

with this type of coolant recovery and vent system.

Originally engineered by GM for use in the Cadillac

Northstar and the reverse flow cooling system in the

Corvette LS1, Dexcool is formulated with propylene glycol

which has the propensity to evaporate more rapidly than

ethylene glycol, which is your standard green coolant.

You can generally plan on adding a pint or quart during regular (3,000 mile) service intervals.

The patent for Dexcool was later sold to Texaco for

production. I hope that this helps.

WOW great, thanks   :D  :)

That makes me feel better.  I was beginning to think I was burning the coolant again (not in my Tahoe, but my 206,000mile Olds Silhouette started doing it before I got rid of it).

its been a long time since my last post, but i was just about to post a new topic on this.  I just got a "check coolant" message on my message center.  The level was about 1" under the halfway mark.  i added a little coolant, and it is fine now.  I was wondering if there was any evaporation of the liquid.  I know there are no leaks to be seen.  thanks for the info, it was like y'all were reading my mind. :D
