wiring backup lights to trailer harness

Hey y'all, I tried to install a set of H3 55W fog lights to act as supplemental reverse lights during the dark nights. I thought it was a straight forward install - one wire to the light green (center pin) for reverse and the other to the black wire (-ve). I thought by tapping in the trailer harness it would provide a convenient source for the reverse function.

To my surprise, it didn't work. I'll be checking the connections and pin outs tomorrow, but I do have a couple of questions: 1. is the factory 7-lead trailer harness connected to a factory relay? If so, then I won't have to install a separate relay. 2. If not, is it correct to meter +12v with the light green reverse wire and the black ground wire, or do I need to hook up a relay using the Red +12v wire and using the Light green wire as the signal lead?

Thanks

The placing a maxi-fuse in stud #1 in the underhood fuse center

only controls the underhood light (if so equipped) and the hot

power pin in the trailer harness/plug.

The back up light power in the trailer harness/plug should work

without it........................geo
