I have a 1985 suburban 2500 6.2L. Plug in still works great, but i need to keep it warm in areas that i can't plug it in. For work I have to park far away from the bldg, in a large parkin lot... nowhere to plug in. after work, in 10 degree temp., takes me bout 20 min. to get it to idle. Is there anything i can do???

A thought, can you go out on your lunch break start it eat your lunch in it and let it warm up. The second I have seen a auto start system that some folks in Canada use that will sense the temputure of the engine coolant and start the truck when it drops to a set limit run the truck until it get up to temp and shut down. I don't know who makes the system or where to find it but they exist. And I don't know if they will work with your vinatage truck. Or a how about a remote start/ shut off again you can go to the door start eat lunch then go shut it off.

When I was in high school we had a weekend retreat the weekend of this blizzard. I recall one of the other seniors had a Grand Marquis or such and put a blanket under the hood overnight. I don't know if it did a darn thing or not though. Might hold some heat in if put on after she's been running...but then again there is that small fire factor. :banghead:

Not sure what type of fuel filter system you have but you may have the Stanadyne 80 (silver rectangle filter on fire wall.) This unit is more than a filter it also functions as a water separator, water sensor and fuel heater.

It is not uncommon for the heater to fail after years of service. Or be damaged in filter replacement.

The heater is ignition circuit controlled and should turn on at 20 degrees F and turn off at 40 F.

If the truck fires right up but runs poorly you may be fighting a fuel waxing problem intill the engine compartment heats up enough. Check to see if the heater is working and consider a fuel additive. Other than plugging the block heater or leaving the truck running not sure how you could keep the engine warm.
