Drive shaft question

[2000 GMC]

I was changing the oil on my truck last night and was giving a quick inspection.  Is it normal for the front shaft to have some movement?  I know my rear wheel drive shaft has none.

Yes, a little play is normal. You are feeling the clearance in the tail-shaft bushing.

Chock your wheels, take it out of Park, emergency brake off and I think you will find a very small amount of rotational play in both shafts. That is the clearance between the ring and pinion.
