In a '97 those are likely lamps instead of LED's behind the buttons. You can take the faceplate apart and put a voltmeter across the contacts to see if the bulb is really out...may be something else in the circuit.

But if the bulb is out and you are feeling lucky, try to find a new bulb (good luck) and solder it on. I'd really recommend finding a radio in a junkyard though.

I've got a similar issue on my '02 2500. I believe the light behind the "2" preset and the light behind the "5" preset is burnt out. How difficult is it to access them and replace? Thanks!

Finding the two different size bulbs is the hard part, if you use all one size the buttons have bright and dim spots (ask how I know). Getting the face of the radio off is the most difficult beccause the tuning knob didn't come right off for me, and I didn't want to break so I worked around it. If soldering in tight areas isn't a problem for you then fo for it. I'm not an electronics expert and I managed so...
