Hey Jared,

I was wondering if you could give me a estimate on how much it would run me to swap my 5.3 for a 6L.. I dont think I should waste my time modding my 5.3.. I am just going to start fresh with the 6L.. Where did you get your motor and where do you suggest looking? Will my current harness work or would i need to get the harness with the motor as well.. It should mount up to my 60E right??

TIA,

Drew

YO!!

Ok. Price is really gonna depend on which 6.0 you want to get. Bone yards love to tag Cadillac and HO onto a motor and charge 1000 more or so for a motor. I looked for 6 months. I went for a lower CR LQ4. I didnt want to pay 1000 dollars more for 20 extra HP from the LQ9. Anyway, I got my motor for $1250 complete in Oklahoma City. It had something like 4900 on the odo in the donor truck. Not saying modding the 5.3 is a waste. But the 6.0 has alot more potential for power and TQ. All you will need is the motor and a tranny that will stand life behind that motor. The stock 60 will not last! Yes it will bolt up just fine. If you have a V8 right now you dont need a harness. You also do not need a tune for the motor to run. It will start, idle and run fine on the 4.8/5.3 PCM. AS LONG AS ITS NOT A 99 PCM! They had smaller injectors than the 2000+ trucks did. You will need the flexplate off your 5.3 to put on the 6.0. Also. Very, very important is engine model year. You MUST look for a 2001+ 6.0!! Engines before that year had a longer crank snout and will NOT work with a 4L60, only a 4L80. So be careful there. If you go look at a motor, just make sure it has aluminum heads with 317 stamped on the corner and your good to go.

www.car-part.com is your best bet for searching out a motor. When you look for one you want the engine with a "U" suffix. That denotes the LQ4. Or if you want an LQ9 its an "N".

Thanks for the help.. It will be a little while before I get started but I wanted to go ahead and start looking and get some price figures.. Im guessing I will need a built 65E.. I am in the process of swapping out my 99 pcm for an 02 but I got it tuned for 99 injectors.. Thanks for the help!

You can use a built 60E. Thats what I did. IMO vacuum modulation is a big kicker int he long run. Pulse width modulation is what shortens a tranny's life. TM cuts line pressure to soften a shift. But all that does is starve the 3-4 clutch pack of fluid and frys it. That and PWM just sucks anyway. I do not want the PCM having any part in chaning my line pressure. Downshifts and WOT upshifts are very, very, very, very positive and quick.
