Safe, but not the best chemical. Better to use a product with methanol not isopropyl. Methanol removes any small amount of water by settling to the bottom of the tank where the water is then mixing with it and burning. Isopropyl will not settle to the bottom of the tank, it is not heavier than gasoline so it will prevent freezing but will not mix with the water like methanol will. If you live where they mix methanol into the gas (winter fuel) you dont need to add anything, it's in there already.

All I know is the red bottle is better than the yellow bottle.

You WANT Isopropyl dry gas. The Isopropyl alcohol mixes with/absorbs the water in the tank and then burns. The methyl stuff just mixes with the water and keeps it from freezing. It doesn't do anything to get it out of the tank. Iso = keep tank actually dry. Methyl = keep water in tank, just keep it from freezing. There is a reason why IsoHeet (red bottle) costs just a little more than regular Heet (blue bottle). Its DEFINITELY better. Do not use the methyl stuff. I can't stress this enough. You should run a bottle of the Iso stuff through the tank once a month, even in the summer. When the tank is anything but 100 percent full water will condense on the inside of the tank (in the area where there is no gas, sitting overnight for instance). This happens year round.
