Suburban Computer Problems

In April of last year I bought a new 2001 Chevy Suburban and within 2 weeks it was being taken to the dealer on a flatbed. The computer/security system had went out. After getting it back I figured that was the last I had heard of that problem - not a chance! Within 3 months of ownership the same problem occured again. Again, off it went to the dealer on a flatbed to be replaced. Well now it has been almost 11 months of ownership and it is again making a trip to the dealership on a flatbed.

I decided that this vehicle was not relible enough to have my 2 small children out in and procceded to trade it in only to find out that if I wanted to do so I was going to go $8800 upside down! I called Customer Assistance for Chevorlet only to be talked down to and told that they are in the buisness of selling and repairing vehilces not helping out with trade in issues.

I would like to know if anybody else has has similar problems with their Suburbans and what you did about it, also I would like to know if anybody has any suggestions as to what I can do about this.

Thank you.

I am aware of an 2002 Escalade owner with similar problems that were corrected on the third try.  No further problems have been reported.

Three strikes and you're out! Here in California with our Lemon laws, the motivation was there to correct the problems.

Same deal in Virginia, see your lemon laws 3rd time for same problem, within a specific period of time or mileage and can make them do abuy back, you pay a nominal fee for mileage, can walk or buy another from your car company.

This is the Virigina thing, I went through it (kinda) with a Dodge Grand Caravan (POS edition), swore off them from that time forward.

I have a good friend in S.C. who bought a 2001 Suburban after I told him how reliable my 2000 Yukon XL was. (I had to get him out of his ratty old Ford Bronco OJ-mobile)  He too had troubles with his security system.  He started having problems with his after a couple of months.  The truck just would not start.  Sometimes he could jiggle the key cylinder on the steering colun and get it to start.  He had the steering column replaced, new modules installed, and one dealer even replaced his battery ( clueless!!! )  They were certain it was the security system but they could not get it fixed.  After three dealers, and numerous  repair trips, GM finally bought the truck back and he purchased a new Suburban.  He has had no problems with his new one.  I would keep my documentation for the repair attempts, research the lemon law statutes in your state, and pursue that option if possible. :D
