6.5 Speakers

I was thinking of going 6 1/2 comps in the rear doors and not using the tweets, just wire it up with the crossover by itself. I have 6 1/2 comps up front. this will all be running off the factory head. I can use a jig saw with a metal cut blade to finish it out. What you guys think?

I was going to install an amp with one 10, The reason I'm doing this is my neighbors radio went out going off, one side not working, this happend before the amp install, it finally started doing it all the time so he took it in and they said "so sorry, your warranty is voided on the radio and speakers" sence you added the amp.

I've got another year 1/2, or 15k left on mine, I was thinking this will be a temp solution.

Exactly what I did...sounds much better than the 4x6s...read my list below. Later, :D:fume::)

I'd go ahead and do whatever you want. Put some nice 4-ohm rear speakers in. And why not hook up the tweeters. Why would you think of leaving the tweeters unconnected?

IMHO, if the factory radio dies, you've lost nothing. The only thing lost--if something dies in the inferior GM radio--is the dealer won't have to replace the inferior radio with another inferior radio. Sounds like you're looking at replacing it anyway. Why wait?

In my opinion, the factory GM radio is inferior to just about any aftermarket national brand radio. If you ever use AM--to listen to rush for example--you'll be truly amazed that some engineer somewhere thought that the reception was somehow improved by an erratic invocation of a high filter to muffle the static that wouldn't even happen in the first place in a nice Pioneer or Alpine.

Once I discovered *that* disgusting display of engineering incompetence, the factory radio had to GO.

And I do Listen to Rush, and Sean Hannity, :D

that does sound good, but money is tight right now. I have the tweets upfront and there is plenty of mids, highs and medium bass, more than stock. thinking that it might add just a tad more mid bass

I don't think you'll notice any real improvement in bass from changing out the rear speakers. The cavity in which the speakers will reside is not sufficiently isolated from the interior of the cab...the low frequencies from the rear speakers will be attenuated as a result.

I changed out mine with 4x6 components (1" dome tweeter and 4" woofer) and they provide "fill" but no noticable bass.

When you do have the funds ($200 or so) you should consider an Infinity Basslink. It has a 10" woofer, and a 10" passive radiator, and its own 200W amp. Easy to install, doesn't take up a lot of space, and gives you the bass you crave. You'll be glad you got it. I have never seen a bad review of the Basslink.

Eff that stock deck. You'd be better off amping your front components than spending the money for some rear speakers in an extended cab. Even if you did replace them, it probably wouldn't make much of a difference in sound. I'd buy an aftermarket head unit and amp the front components that you already have. Just my opinion...

If you go with rear 6.5s make sure you put some hardboard around all the holes you will see...this way the speaker is 'enclosed' way better than before. My alpine rears sound great just by themselves after doing this...much better than the 4x6s that were in there. I have the crossed at 125, the fronts at 100...if that helps. This way you can crank it up and the low stuff stays where it belongs...later,:cheers::D

Waitting on UPS for the rear 6.5's comps and got some baffels/Pods to go with them, I already have 6.5 comps in front. Should have ordered them together, but like a dummy I didn't.

Some great thoughts...and here's a little tip to make your truck sound better without spending alot of $$. In order to dampen resonance, most retailers guide you to use Dynamat, Brown Bread, or similar products that are quite pricey considering what they are. When I changed the rear door speakers in my 02 ECSB, I went to Home Depot and bought a roll of Quick Roof, made for quick roof repairs. You get a 6-inch wide by 16-foot long roll of self-stick, aluminum faced material that is very much like the high priced sound dampeners. It works great behind the speakers, and I use it under the speaker where it attaches to the door panel. Not bad for about $11/roll.

I've heard other people talk about this Lowes has something called Peal and seal also, Does this stuff have a toxic smell to them? I don't want the inside to smell like I've been driving behind a tar truck.

Well................ I got the front and rears installed, fronts sound great more bass and high's mush better, But the rears sound like CRAP, and the left rear cuts on and off when you turn up the volume. I'm returning them and just go ahead and get an amp and a 10" for the rear.

Whats up with the fronts 4ohm and the rears 8ohm, will this effect the amp for the rear on a 4ch amp wired as a 3ch. is the radio wired for this set-up, replacing a 8ohm speaker with a 4ohm speaker make it sound like crap

The rear speakers are probably cutting out because the stock deck sucks @ss, and doesn't have enough power to push them at higher volumes. Just amp the aftermarket speakers and they'll sound much better.
