Was snowing pretty bad today, the highways were bad. I was glad to have my new 99 chevy truck, i just hit the auto button and took off....my question is...is it ok to go highway speed, 55-65 in auto 4x4...i would think if the rear wheels slip, and it kicks the fronts in it would do some damage at that speed...would i have been smarter to go in 4x4 mode???

any input would be appreciated, since this auto 4x4 is new to me...i have a friend who plows snow in auto, that seems kinda bad to me too, i would think full time 4x4 is better, but i could see the benefit of the auto mode in tight turns.

I have the same tranfer case and as far as I know the whole benifit of having AUTO TRAC is being able to leave it on at any speed and 4x4 will kick in when you need it . The manual give no speed limit in auto trac . I would think if you were plowing useing 4hi or 4lo makes more sense to me .

i drove in auto 4 wheel in snow at 55-65 mph for a two hr trip.  This was about a yr ago with no problems at all
