What would it take to convert manual A/C to automatic A/C on an '06 Silverado? Is it only the A/C control panel that need to be replaced, or is there something else? If it is only the control module, what is the cost?

I think a few guys on here have done this but its time and money consuming,its definetly not just the control head thats needed,theres different actuators and resistors and addtional parts needed like the air aspirator in the headliner,I think the wiring harness is different to but I'm not sure.

I have the automatic A/C and honestly I don't really like it and not real crazy about it,Its harder to use than just the good old fashion knobs,especially driving down the road,you have to take your eyes off of the road to make any kind of adjustment at all and look at the display to see whats going on with the controls.

I drive our parts truck here ('04 2500HD) once in a while with the manual controls and its so nice being able to make changes going down the road without having to take my eyes off of the road (Its a lot safer too!) Thats just my .02 cents however,The one guy over in our body shop loves his automatic A/C in his '05 HD.

I have the auto climate feature on my Suburban. I find that I fiddle with the controls just as much as the manual controls in my Subaru and my Volkswagen.

 

Seems like it should be nice to have as it comes packaged with the other convenience options I did want, but I probably wouldn't have missed it if it wasn't there.

I got the manual controls since I have the front bench option. Now reading other's comments I'm glad I didn't get the console and auto climate. I still have separate controls for driver/passenger. Is that different in the pickups?

It is not worth it. You have to buy sensors, run wires, etc. Total cost, unless you found a wrecked truck you could have the stuff out of, would be more than getting it as an option on your next truck. Not to mention the pain of actually doing the conversion. I have not done it, but there was alot of discussion here a few months back on doing it. GM Tech, I think, listed all the stuff you would have to do.

Thanks for all the comments. The only reason I asked about this was that I saw an auto A/C module that would fit my truck on eBay for about $ 35. If it was a straght plug-in and nothing else was needed, I would try it just to see if i like it. However, it looks like the manual system is actually better because you have sliding switches instead of rotary knobs on the auto system, and you can move both sliding switches simultaneously with one motion, while turning of the knobs has to be done one at a time.

 

I have an auto climate control system in my '83 Mercedes 300SD and I hate it with passion. This is the stupidest system you can imagine. It has only two manual fan settings - one is too low and one very high, so both are useless, In the auto setting, the system always goes to the high fan setting until it reaches the desired temperature which is very annoying. Old Cadillac climate control systems used to be like that and I hated those too (my dad had an 1980 Caddy). Newer auto climate control systems usually have manual fan speed settings and manual override capability, so they are much more user friendly.

 

I am staying with the old reliable manual A/C on my truck! :crackup:

I have the automatic controls also. As others have said, they aren't all that great. IMO. If I had it to do again I would have gotten the manual controls.

      I found an odor eliminator spray that neutralizes unwanted smells pretty well. Using it with the car's AC running helps to distribute it evenly around the cabin.

      He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
