Door Lock Gremlins

Hi Guys,

My 96 c/k series w/pdl & pw has a gremlin in the drivers door lock assembly.

The door key lock works

The outside handle works

The inside handle is connected and moves the lock assembly but will not release it enough to open the door.

Now I replaced both handles last summer IN & OUT and sometime in the fall the inside door handle started moving the inside lock when you pulled it

IE; when it was locked and you pulled the handle it would unlock but not open and visa versa

I checked all the rods and they are all connected and appear to be in the right spots.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

I was having a similar problem on my '95. I would pull the handle to open the door and nothing would happen, I would have to pull the handle so hard that I started bending the inside handle. I finally replaced the inside assembly when I started to open the window to reach the outside handle to get out.... Problem fixed.

Good thing too, I'm too fat to do the Dukes of Hazzard thing

The inside door handles use plastic as a hinge, and white cast metal for the handle. Although it looked OK when I checked it, it was worn just enough to cause a problem....I also niticed that if you use anything but a 3/16" rivet to hold the handle assembly in place, it would work it's way loose and screw up the tolerance.

Hope this helps....Good Luck

Yeahh turns out this was one of those deals where to many cooks spoiled the broth :D

My buddy helped me 1/2 way thru and unbeknownst to me the rods got twisted in the door when I disconnected them and since he reconnected them welllll you figure it out. Then since we thought it was a bent or straightened rod wellllll go figure again.

Well I untwisted the rods and put a littl;e bend back in it and  all is well in whoville!!!

Thanks for the advice though!
