88' Cutlass Supreme

OKAY here's the deal,

 

Before I start off I will state a couple things so you can see it from my point of view, sorry I know what your thinking! Next fall I will have to commute 75 miles (one way) every day for school as it is my last semester and won't have anywhere to live near school. So I was talking to a buddy of mine last night and he started talking about this BLACK 2dr. 1988 Olds Cutlass Supreme the newer body style looking one, with a 2.8 V6, FIVE speed, with 140,000 miles on it. Brand new brakes all the way around, and the car is MINT which is rare to say the least up here in the U.P. of Michigan. The only problem is it has the digital gauges and sometimes the odometer goes out, that's IT. Tires are about 50%, he's asking $500 bucks for it. The only reason I'm looking at buying it is I'm sure gas prices won't be any lower next year and it will probably pay for itself vs. paying for the gas in my truck driving back and forth 75 miles every day. I have a 99 NBS Sierra 5.3 and have been getting 15mpg lately sometimes up to 17 if I'm on the highway a lot.

 

I know the five speed in those cars is pretty rare and I think it would be a fun car, although being a college student I'm going to be playing catch up with my bank account. If anyone has any experience with these cars or any input PLEASE don't be shy!!!

My advice would be to check and be sure it will pass inspection. (if ya have that in Mich.)

I was just about to get my '85 Delta 88 inspected (last time was 4/04, has sat since then), when I found out they changed some inspection laws here in my part of PA.

I'd had the motor changed and left the pollution stuff off (didn't need it before) but now it has to have it ??!!

Ended up selling it to a mechanic at the shop for the demos.
