Steering Wheel

This might start you off. Basically, just get a SS Cluster, add four momentary contact switches to a home-brew switch box. Connect this to the cluster harness. You will have to have your odometer mileage flashed into your SS Cluster.

For the full gory details, read the pages of messages from the past three years on this. Some of the messages are corrupt, but there are enough to allow you to get the feel of the project. You gotta take your time, read - read - read. Be patient. Read the messages:

In the same message thread, you have this message. It got the project to begin working successfully:

On the main column connector that is part of the body harness (not the column harness)

A5 IS GROUND

B2 IS FUEL ECONMY

A4 IS RESET

B26 IS TRIP MILES

B13 IS VEHICLE OPTIONS

ON THE CLUSTER PLUG

B7 FUEL ECONY As long as you hook each of these wires to one side

B6 RESET of a switch and a ground to the other side it should

B5 TRIP work.

B4 OPTIONS

To add the DIC Wheel:

1. Steering Wheel with the Buttons

2. Clockspring Harness (so there is something for you to plug the streering wheel buttons into! The clockspring that comes on a truck without the factory buttons only has plugs for the airbag)

3. Hope you've got a smart guy at the dealership who is persistant enough to get the TBC and IPC codes from GM Techline for your truck so that it will recognize that you have the buttons installed.

I did this to my 2005 CC and it works great.

You could get around the reprogramming by buying a new enabled cluster, then an aftermarket stereo and PAC adapter to control the radio with the buttons on the wheel.

Good luck,

DC

Looks like all you need is the pac adaptor then for your radio, the SS cluster should work right away when plugged in.

One caution though! You may not want to have your mileage flashed into the SS cluster. You can put a mileage declaration sticker in the doorjam instead. I've heard from at least 2 guys who did have their mileage flashed into their new cluster and they lost all of their DIC functionality when they did. Apparently the computer that does it sets your cluster to factory specs at the same time. If your truck didn't come with DIC, you'll loose it.

The interesting part is that my truck didn't come with it, but when I had my TBC and IPC codes updated and the DIC enabled on my factory cluster, all of the data since I drove the truck off the lot was there. Apparently I had been getting 14.4 MPG! I do a little better these days now that I see the MPG in front of my face!

Good luck,

DC
