Sonoma 2.2 L problems?

Recommended Posts

Care to share the things that go bad wear out? I have had my 1995 Sonoma 5 years and had to replace the front rotors (warped) and pads, alternator, fuel pump, power steering pump and EGR valve. New tires of course. Also the lifters seem to be making a lot of rattling noises @ startup when cold.

But lately the head gasket keeps leaking in the winter time...

3 time in as many years at $1500 a pop from the stealer. Anyone else have this problem and what is the remedy??

Other that the head gasket, this truck has been pretty dependable.

I had this problem...appears to be a design flaw in the 94-97 Pickups with the 2.2L...they keep blowin gaskets

I had my mechanic do it for about $400 (he's cheap), but he installed a heavier gasket...Felpro i believe...and that did the final trick.

Well I've owned my NOMA for about 5 years now,and its sitting at 163,00 miles. 45k when i bought it. I suggest you fix your HG. Mine went out on me about a year ago. They are notorious for that I take it, I replaced my clutch fan. Dealer item 80 bucks or so. The blower motor is funky in the cold weather. Either ya tap it with your knuckle or ya aim for a pot hole to get it to kick on. Alternator konked out about a month ago. New exhaust from the manifold back, old 1 rusted to hell. I live in Michigan so i get my fair share of salt damage. Other then that shes been a hellova truck for me done alot of driveing long distance and its a comforatable ride for my taste. ENJOY

Oh yeah for your lifters, If you notice alot of trucks like S10s and Sonomas have got that tick. It wouldnt hurt and its not a big job to have the rocker arm bolts tightened to specs that might be a simple fix for ya. If not then im sure a good mechanic can track down if theres a problem or not.
