Pioneer DEH-P4800MP & PAC SWI-PS

Bought these from Crutchfield and finally got around to installing them yesterday. Very nice. The sound is much nicer than the stock deck was, and the SWI-PS works seamlessly with the steering wheel controls. I still have to run my pre-amp outs back to my sub, but so far I like it. One nice thing about Crutchfield is that they send you everything you need to do the install. Wiring harness, antenna extension, mounting kit for the head unit and very detailed instructions. I bought the optional Metra VT-GMRC-01 GM Class II Data bus Interface to retain the chimes. I even still have power for the radio after you remove the key, just like stock and now I have an amp turn on as well.

How tough was the steering wheel module to install? Did Crutchfield include the instructions for that as well?

The instructions came with the PAC unit. It was simple to install, at least with the radio I got. There is a 1/8 plug in the back of the head unit that you can use for a wired remote that the PAC unit plugs in (the head unit comes with a wireless remote). You connect a hot, a ground and one wire to the harness coming from the steering wheel and it takes about 5 minutes to program. Pretty simple.

Hi,

I bought the same head unit, not for my truck but for my car. I don't have steering wheel controls in my car. I assume the SWI-PS is for your wheel controls?

Anyway, I selected the Pioneer 4800 because they support adding a direct iPod interface very easily and plus the 4800 will support the new BlueTooth adapter that Pioneer is releasing this month or next. So you plug in two module (adapters) and bang, you have iPod and Blue Tooth cell phone support. This should be pretty nice. I haven't installed the 4800 yet. Looking to do that Wednesday night.

Are you feeding the 4800 to an amp? What make/model?

Did you get after market speakers also? Make/model?

Thanks,

Yes, the SWI-PS is for using the stock steering wheel controls. The rest of my gear is in my sig.
