ABS LIGHT

Well, I knew it was inevitable, ABS light came on and the EBCM is running all the time.

 

Could any one tell me what fuse I pull to shut it down? I disconnected the battery for now. I cant find the trucks manual. I can't find the ABS fuse on the back of the fuse cover... Help!

I found the fuse. Now to remove ECBM then ship it off to module masters tomorrow.

i did this last month. module removes easily after removing bolts from entire assembly to get room brake lines have enough give to allow this. takes 5 minutes.

 

Good repair and system now works perfectly.

That is what I am hoping, that the module comes out easy.

 

I was told about a place in Mississauga, Ontario that rebuilds modules. They want $200 Cdn to rebuild mine or $300 for an exchange. I am very impressed with the Module Master web site, I will be asking the local place if they up grade any parts or just replace the defective amplifier chip.

 

I will update this post as I get more info.

Just an update. My module was a little difficult to remove because the heads of the screws had rusted. I sent the module off to Module Masters, within 24 hours of receiving it, it was returned to me via pre-paid FedEx. The module works great!

 

It is very reassuring to know that there are businesses out there that still do what they say they do. up to Gavin and Connie at Module Masters.

I thought about buying a new EBCM, I called my GM stealer and they said it was $1315 CDN list. It would take 4 days to get it. Once I got it and installed it, the GM dealer would have to program it and that cost would be another $95.

 

I am glad that I saved over $1200 sending the unit to Module Masters, the other bonus is that the rebuilt module is up graded so I wont have this problem again.

 

This site has saved me lots of cash over the last year. Thanks to every one that has posted there past experiences.

 

Now what to do with that $1200 I saved, PCM tune... Wheels...?

My module master work is now 8 months old and perfect. I would not have known about this "fix" without this site. Thank You to everyone on this site for that and other tips and experiences. I enjoy my truck more because of all of us.

 

I have 117,000 miles on the trucks and it runs great.

i was at the dealer today to do the code check, full check is $85, and it showed a bunch of error codes, the guy that i had to come back on monday to see the brake tech and was concerned about my safety but i think that is dealer just making a fuss to get the big check,

c0281 module

 

how deep i am in trouble ?

I disconnected the EBCM on my 1999 GMC Sierra 5 years and 150,000 miles ago, and the truck still stops fine. It now has 244,000 miles on it. All of the components you mentioned are associated with the Antilock system, and are not active if the ABS is disconnected. If you are worried about your safety, disconnect the ABS until you can get it fixed, and be more careful when stopping to avoid locking your tires up.

 

As for the codes, I don't know if they are bogus or not. If the dealership said it, my first thought is it must be wrong, but you know your dealer better than I do. If you can't tell, I'm not a big fan of dealerships.

You might want to inform your insurance company that you havent got a working ABS because if they are giving you a discount and you happen to get into a serious accident you might be charged with fraud. (Lieing)

this is what i got from module masters asking the same question:

 

 

I've attached two pictures of two different modules. The error codes that you've sent us are commonly seen in the 99 and newer vehicles that utilize a newer style of module so I'm not sure which one you have. The 99 and newer is smaller and "L" shaped one and the older one looks like a short, fat "T". Normally the 98 and older vehicles are not ones that work on, but they aren't usually faulty either. If your module is the newer style our rebuild will definitly take care of all your error codes. If it's the older style your best bet would be to try and find a used one on ebay or in a salvage yard. If you have any other questions let us know!
