fuel Gage

the last two times I've filled my tank I've noticed that when I get down to what I consider empty, meaning the needle is all the way down to the left and looking like it's past the empty mark. when I go to fill the tank all I can put in is 23 gallons. so I'm wondering how far can you go when these trucks hit "empty"??  anyone know how much fuel is unuseable in the tank at the bottom??

The gas gauge on the new trucks are so touchy.  My low fuel light comes on at a little under a 1/4 tank.  I really wish it would just flash every 20 miles or so, as opposed to staying on all the time.  But, even at the empty tank mark there is still a gallon or two in there.  They really try to idiot proof these trucks so that people don't get stranded on the side of the road.

If I remember right I think I have 3-4 gallons left when the light comes on.  For me that means I need to start looking for gas!!!  (My normal driving gets me about 11 mpg)

I've had 2 cars where I learned where EMPTY was.  BOTH times I was ROLLING into a gas station.  Not giong there again.  My truck rarely sees less than 1/4 tank.

My '99 went completely empty just below the E line.  Lucklily I was rolling into a gas station as it sputtered.  Haven't tried it on the current one.  It's too hard on the fuel pump when you run really low on fuel.  :)

i made the comment to the guys at work that no matter when i fill up or how many miles it has on the tank, it almost always takes 23 gallons...

anyhow, i've gotten as much as 50 miles after the light comes on.

My jeep is a completely different story -- learned the hard way that a quarter tank on the guage was acually empty in the tank!

I dunno, I always fill-up when I hit 1/4 of a tank, so I have never tested out what happens when you hit E, and I don't ever plan on it.

I usually fill up when the needle hits the 1/4 mark for my 26 gallon tank.  It usually takes about 20-22 gallons at that point and I'll have a little over 300 miles on the trip odometer.

300 with a quarter tank left...Der...at 1/4 mine takes about 19 gallons to fill, with about 220 - 230 miles on the trip odometer, d@mn city driving... ???

Twice now I've been at 350 on the odom. when it hits the empty line and then when I fill up it only takes 23 gallons. so I'm just trying to get an idea of how many miles before it's truely empty. If I can safely get another 20 miles before I need to fill up I'd like to do that. I guess 350 out of 23 gallons isn't that bad though.

You guys want me to test the limits of the gas tank?  I hit a 1/4 tank about a week ago, and this morning when I pulled into work the gage settled at the empty line.  I know she's got a few more miles in her.  I'll probably fill it up tonight though, just to be on the safe side.

Ever since my fuel sending unit took a dump  :) I use my trip odometer. I'm getting about 350 miles on a tank.
