New to this forum and am very impressed at the amount of data here!  Great info.  Do have a question however, just picked up my new GMC Sierra and have the 5.3 in it.  Have heard alot about K&N and have been wondering if anyone can tell me what the horsepower gain would be if I went this route.

Welcome to the Forum.  You'll find the most info possible using the "Search" feature.  The Search button is on the upper right hand part of the Forum pages.  Do a search on the keywords K&N on "All Open Forums" and you'll find the threads to everything ever posted on K&N.  Make sure you set the Search "timeframe" to "Today" "and  older.  Great feature.

Welcome aboard :)

 

I've got the FIPK on my 4.8 and you definetly notice a little betther throttle response when you hit the gas.  Any aftermarket intake is better than the stock one.

A K&N "drop-in" filter will give some mild performance increases but not enough to feel.  The K&N FIPK will give some noticable gains like chevy4x4trucks said...

Hi and Welcome!

 

There a a few little mods you can do to free up some HP, so look around.

 

UPD and K&N have some nice intake tubes

 

Gibson and Flowmaster have some nice catback exhaust packages

 

You can also get an underdrive pulley

 

EGR mod

 

Descreen the MAF

 

Measure TB for WOT

 

etc etc  :)

welcome aboard - boy did you get jumped on - when you get all of those done we will introduce you superchargers, nitrous and cam change outs :)  :)  :D

Wow didnt realize I would get so many responses!  Thanks for the great info guys, think I am gonna go with the FIPK and a cat back with flowmasters as a starter.  Just kinda kills me to remove a brand new exhaust system.  Probably hold on to it till i trade the truck one day and put it back on if I can. We will see.

Congrats on the truck. your gonna love it. the 5.3 motor is very fast and tows well in 3rd gear. i have the k&N FIPK and it gives better throttle response too. ggod luck
