Cat-back for 1500

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the muffler in my 99 K1500 and was looking at the various cat-back systems out there.

What does everyone have/recommend?  I want something that will sound docile, but "heavy".  I do not want any resonance in the cab.

I want something to complement the authority of the K&N FIPK 4-barrell sound.

I am currently saving for a set of "The Other Guys Headers" and I don't want something that is already loud with the factory manifolds.

Thanks

The flowmaster American Thunder series would compliment the FIPK really nicely.   :D I don't have it but will soon, but have heard it and has a nice deep tone to it. :)

On my '90 I have a Borla cat-back.  It has a real nice sound and has no resonance.  I always got resonance on other trucks with Flowmasters. :D  Although, Flowmaster has a lot of new products out lately.   :)

I've heard Gibson makes a good system that is a bit throatier than stock, but not overwhelming.  Keep in mind, I've HEARD that, I don't have any first hand experience with it.

I have a Gibson catback with a UPD induction.  I think it is a nice combination.  If you want more sound "authority", Flowmaster may be the way to go.  However, some have reported a loss of low end torque with Flowmaster.  That is one of the reasons I went with Gibson.  I've gained a pit of power across the the useful rev spectrum.

Thanks everyone, I am seriously considering the Gibson with the dual exits behind the tire.

Got rid of my Gibsons. They gave me a headache on the freeway at 60 mph. In cab resonance drove me nuts. So I installed these to replace them:
