In-Dash Computers

Ok - I saw a great in-dash computer screen awhile ago. Cant remember where. This one was positioned down on the center console where the power outlets are located. The person had cut out that entire section and put in a monitor. Any instructions or info on how to do that would be great! This is a project that I would like to have done later this summer. So I need to find the info now to get moving on it.

check out www.mp3car.com

they have everything you need to get started. Try searching SILVERADO and you will find some interesting projects there.

I have been working on getting one for a while but it is on hold right now due to limited funds cause I am trying to get a boat.

Step by step instructions of putting a computer in your truck.

I will get some pics up shortly. Just got a new camara from BB.

PS, how are you going to mount your screen? I know you have the almost double din dash cause you have a 2005. I am going to move my ac controls down and replace the entire front with an 8 inch. I am currently waiting on a guy to make a mount for me so who knows.

I've thought of doing something like this before, but how well do they hold up in extreme temperatures? It's not uncommon for it to get to -30 here at my house, and we often visit my in-laws, where it's not uncommon to get above 120 (And who knows what the inside temp gets to when the car is parked there!).

I'd hate to invest my time & money into something like this, only to have it melt or freeze to death. I've seen the interesting things that the heat has done to my cell phone & ipod screen if I accidentally leave them in the car on occasion, what would every day in the car do to the stuff?

most likely not a good idea for you. The touchscreen def. would NOT work in those extreme conditions. even below freezing the touchscreen begins to malfunction until it warms up.

Im not saying the touchscreen would break but in those freezing conditions it would take forever for it to warm up and start working.

don't know much about hot temps. might be ok? anyone else know?
