Instrument 40 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 2000 Silverdao. 160K. Driving down the road and all of sudden the dash lights will all come on, as if I am about to start the truck. They'll come on for about 3 seconds and go off. The truck doesn't sputter or stop. What is causing this?
bobcat5544 Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 there is a few things that will cuase this 1. Alternator is starting to go out, watch your volt meter 2. Insturment cluster is going out 3. lossing power throw the ignition switch these are a few things that can cuase your problem. when it does it happen (exp..on the highway, at stop light, on buppy roads, on accle/decel) try to keep an eye on it and what you are doing when it happens and then let me know
Instrument 40 Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 It does it as I am cruising down the road. Never at a stop light, in a turn or on bumpy roads. Not experiencing any other indicators that alt is going out, not to say it isn't. Not really sure.
pwall Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 My buddies's 2001 Silverado was doing something similiar...dash lights going nuts, as well as the gauges. Turned out to be the connection for the dash, which apparently are found on the frame rail. The connectors were corroded. Not sure if this if your issue, but probably worth checking.
