Switched Bed?

Recommended Posts

I special ordered my 2001 Silverado with a stepside bed.  However, the dealer screwed up the order, and did not include the stepside.  I notified them of their error, and they had to call the GM rep to get the order corrected.

The truck gets delivered with the stepside bed, but a couple of other minor things are screwed up like no carpet and the wrong radio.  The weird thing is that the stepside option doesn't show up on the window sticker!

What do you guys think is more likely.  Did they originally build the truck with a regular bed and switch it, or is the paperwork just screwed up?  Is there a way to tell?  There are some numbers on the bed underneath the truck.  Does anyone know how to decode them?

Thanks.

City Truck has you covered.  :D

If that code is not there, then they probably just swapped beds, and I'd ask them about it.  Ask if they swapped beds, if they say no, ask why the code isn't in the glove box.

I take it you ordered carpet and a certain radio?  Here is a list of RPO codes for the 2001 trucks.  Some codes have not on the list though.  2001 RPO code list

Good luck, and welcome to the site.  :)

If the truck is not exactly the way you want it then don't accept it. They cost to much money to put up with the dealer making those kinds of mistakes.

The code is not in the glovebox.

The truck is the way I want it.  I wanted the stepside bed.  I wanted carpet, and it wasn't on the window sticker or glove box either.  The dealer just added the carpet for me.  The radio was better than I had ordered, so the dealer split the cost difference with me.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the truck.  I was just curious if there was a way to tell definitively.

I guessing either the dealer messed up the paperwork or failed to place the order entirely.  To follow that I'd guess that he/she either tried his/her best to modify the incorrectly ordered truck that arrived or found another truck that was as close to the expected order as possible and modified it to meet your original request.  Neither one matters if you're happy.  I had to special order mine as well and I went over every option/code, etc.. several times before the order.  Mine arrived exactly as I ordered it.  If you're happy, that's what matters.  If you're not, I'm with Stepside Z.  Make them get it right even if it means re-ordering (perhaps from a different dealership).
