Whining Fuel Pump

My 99 ext. cab Silverado w/5.3L has a constant, loud, high pitched whine coming from the fuel pump. It's loud enough to be annoying in the cab with the windows up. Is this normal, does anyone else have this problem, etc? Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard a fuel pump whine on these trucks yet. Is the sound coming from the front of the truck by chance? If it is, the ABS module is probably fried...

Mine just started doing it too. Doesn't do it all the time, but if I'm sitting in traffic for a while, it will start.

My 97 use to do it horribly loud. I hope the crazy thing isn't going out.

Hear it real loud standing on the drivers side where the bed meets the back of the cab.

You will need a new fuel pump.

Mine did it around 35k miles and had it replaced under warranty.

But i had a heck of a time as it wouldnt do it all the time.

I must have gone back to the ealer 3 times before i finally took it in while it was whining.

Where is the pump at? Do you have to drop the tank to get at it?

Kinda funny - last fall while deer hunting, it ended up that I had my 97 Suburban parked next to a 98 Chevy Silverado and a 2000 Silverado. All three had fuel pumps that whined - so loud that they drowned out the stock exhausts. Here it is 7 months later, and none have failed so far.

I usually try to listen to other Chevy and Gmc trucks, and it seems quite common that they whine.

Mine had a fuel pump whine when I first bought the truck new. (gets real noticeable when the tank is under 1/4 full) Took it back to the dealer and the new pump whines too. 7,000 miles later and no different.

I would like to think this is nothing to worry about, especially when my truck takes me out in to the middle of nowhere.

All of the old style CK trucks, Suburbans, and Tahoes had this whine...I wouldn't worry about it. My grandma's old 96 Silverado did it when new.

My "old-style" 93 Z71 fuel pump is very quiet. I definetly can't hear it when the truck is idleing

When my pump started whining, it was very obvious and not normal. It was very loud and embarrassing.

Im glad they fixed it.

What kind of whine does it make? Mine has some kind of whistling whine that goes with the rpm. Any ideas anybody?
