Anti-lock brake module malfunction, anyone else ha

Last night my ABS light came on and the ABS motor came on and stayed on, even with the ignition off! I had to pull the ABS fuse under the hood to make it stop. I took it to my friend and he scanned it.The code wasn't even in his book, so he called a guy he knows at the Chevy dealer. He said the ABS module is out and a new one is about $600 :0 He also said they have two in their shop now with the same problem. So, has anyone else had this to happen to them? If I can't find a used module, I will just drive it anyway, but I would like to fix it. ABS isn't worth $600 to me.

The ABS motor module is a notorious weakness of the 99 and early 2000 trucks. I’ve read some threads on forums where the dealer gave people a price break on a replacement in good faith. Just ask your dealer if he wants to cut you nice deal. Good luck!

same trouble. i was still under warranty when it went on my truck. the part is expensive. dont forget to write to nhtsa, maybe they'll have gm recall the part one day. personally, i think they should anyway since the part is an odvious problem.  you can disconnect the battery until you fix it to stop the motor.

Yep, the '99 and early '00 were notorious for ABS module problems.  I had it go out twice in my '99.  The first time at 50 miles.  Both times the dealer replace the modules.  The first with one of the same ones that came on it, the last time with the latest revision.  I would do like Bigpunn said and complain to NHTSA and the battery deal.  That would at least fix it for a while.  Besides, NHTSA has to open an investigation if it recieves many complaints on this issue.

Same vehicle, same problem.  Have been quoted 1500 to replace the module.  Module alone is $1200 from the dealer.   Half that used.  Not interested in buying a used module that will go out in a year.  The vehicle was one month out of warranty when it failed.  Any information on this problem would be useful.
