Grease question

Can anyone tell me how many zerks there are on a 2 wheel drive 1500.  I only found 6, 3 on each side.  The pics that show the zerk locations seem to be on a Z71.  Just wondering if the 4WDs have more or are there standard numbers (11 I think) on all Silverados.  Also has any one had to have an allignment before 14,000 miles.  My truck pulls to the right slightly and when looking at the front tires head on the left tire seems straight while the right on seems to be slightly toe out.  Thanks.    Chuck

First off, welcome to the site, hope you like it.  :D

The 4x4's do have 11 zerks, but I'm not sure about the exact number on the 2wd's.  The do have less though.  Maybe some of the 2wd guys can get an exact number for you.  :)

I can assure you that there is more then six on your truck, but don't know the exact number for 2wd's.  There is 2 for the upper ball joints, 2 for the lower ball joints, 2 for the outer tie rod ends, 2 for the inner tie rod ends, 1 for the pitman arm, and there should be 2 for the idler arm.  I can't see it having any less then this.

The only difference on the number of zerks on my dads 2wd and my 4wd (C/K not Silverado) is that mine has a grease fitting on the front driveshaft.

The new body style LD trucks have a rack-and-pinion steering system.  Do they have the same number of zerks as the C/K 2wd's?  I'm not sure myself, but I didn't think they had the inner tie-rod ends, pitman, and idler arms that were greasable like the C/K 2wd and current 4x4's.  The Haynes manual shows some pics of the rack-and-pinion set up, but I'm not familiar with it on these trucks.  ???  I can't make out any zerks in the pics for those areas.

What year is your truck CheckH?  New body style, or the previous body style ('88-'99 C/K's)

I have a 2001  2WD Silverado.  for what its worth, I called the service manager today to ask him if he knew the number of zerks on this model.  He told me only 4, on the ball joints on each side.  He said there should be none in between the tires.  Well I found 6, 2 ball joints and 1 on the tie rod on each side.  There was also 1 on the drive shaft.  I put the truck on ramps and could not find any other zerks in the front of the truck.  So i guess it is almost safe to say that the new model 2WDs have 6 zerks on the front end!! :D   If anyone is positive there are more please let me know!!      Chuck

LOL, yeah, you should at least have 6 on the steering portion (4 ball joints, and 2 outter tie-rod ends).   If I find out anything different, I'll post it.   :D
