Hello everyone I have been reading posts here for a long time but this is my first post.  This has been a pretty hot topic. I have a 2000 2500 silverado 4X4 with the factory wheels and tires and now it is time to get new rubber (38000 miles). Every tire shop in my town tells me that there is noway that the 285/75/16 will fit on my truck (without rubbing) without a lift and new wheels, but I hear different on this sight. My Question, can I use my factory 7 inch wheels with the 285/75/16 without wearing the tires out early or rubbing? Next if I were to get new rims (for a better look)what backspacing do I get? I was thinking of getting a set of Boyd Coddington 3/4 ton  wheels with the Geolander A/T+2 285/75/16 but I can't afford to get them and have them rub. Please help me with choosing the best setup for my truck.  Thanks much Big Bert

Those shops are just looking to get more money from you.  285/75/16 fit perfectly on stock rims on the 1500s without any lift or new wheels.  And since you have a 2500 which comes from the factory sitting a little bit higher then the 1500s stock, you will have even less of a problem.  I have 285s and stock wheels on my 1500 and they are wearing perfect and have never rubbed.  So get the 285s and enjoy.  And if you want you could always crank your torsion bars a little to get an extra inch of height up front which will give you more room for the 285s, and you can do that for free.  I ran them fine without the t-bars being cranked, but I went ahead and cranked mine to get a little more height so the truck didn't look so @ss high.  

Tell the tire shops to shove it, get some nice 285s and enjoy.  Oh did I mention that the trucks look so much better with the 285s, give them a better stance then those dorky stock tires.

Me too   I have had the truck since Jan and only 1400 miles on it.  At this rate I am never getting new tires

Go for the 285's. I have a 2002 chevy silverado 1500 sportside. I only have 2,000 miles on my new truck and I traded the factory 265 firecrap tires on a 5 new 285/75R 16 Bf Goodrich tires, I love them, no rub. Best thing I could have done.

  Don't listen to the shop, I have a 2000 silverado 1500 and I was wondering the same thing when I was looking at new rims and tires. check out my link to my pictures and you'll see what Geolander +2's look like on a 16 x 8 american racing wheel. I have zero rubbing and these are the best tires I've ever bought. NO humming on the interstate at all. very quiet tire. The 285 size really helps the look of the truck. I did some before and after shots so go check them out.

Whats the best value (cheapest) 285 AT's out there.  I love the BFG AT KO's but they are a little pricey.  Looked at the Dunlop Rover RV?  I guess I should just wait until the Firecraps wear out and just drop the bones for BFGs?

Nice choice with the Geolanders.  I just put them on my Z about a month ago.  I love 'em!  10x than the firecrappers that came on the truck (on road & off road performance).

I got the Yokohama GeoLander A/T +2  for $108/tire locally from a small shop. That wasn't mounted or balanced. I felt it was a great value considering how great the tires look and sound or should I say Not sound. very quiet tire.

Funny story:  When I went to a local tire shop to buy new 265/75 BFG ATkos to replace the stock 265/75 Firestones the kid mounting them tried to talk me into buying a set of BFG 285ATs instead becuase he thought they would look alot better!

 

I stayed with the stock size for reasons I won't get into here but the 285s will work out fine!  Buy 'em!

Quick question for you all that run 285s without a lift.  Do you offroad any?  I would think that if they are going to rub, they would do so when offroading.  Just asking since I am pretty sure the 265s on my truck will be replaced by 285s.  Just would rather not lift the truck...The wife and kids have a hard enough time getting into the truck right now
