Tire pressure

The sticker in the door recommends 50psi  Thats the max pressure of the steeltex firecraps so I gave it a try and it rode rougher than ####.

 

Is it just me or is it odd to have the recommended pressure be the tire max pressure?

Try 40 psi, you should notice a difference there.

 

The door sticker is just a guide, different tires have different specs, just keep that in mind.

The Sticker on mine says 35 for all four

01 his truck has the steeltex tires.  I had the ATs and it said 35 also i ran em at that till i dumped them.

 

Id try 40-45 and see how that is

I run 50 in my 245's Steeltexs, it came with 40 and I put 50 and couldnt tell any difference. I like the steeltex's actually, had them on another truck and they were a great tire. I actually want to jump up to the 265 steeltex's but they only come in 10 ply!

Thats the good news, the 10 ply are very solid tires.

Ryan -- I missed the Steeltex I just read it fast and saw the firestone's.  Thanks for catchin' that for me.

Are there any dis-advantages to a 10 ply, like less grip in snow or anything??? I really like the Steeltex design and it matches my truck good, but they just need to be a little bigger, dont think I could squeeze 285s in there?

Tire pressure on the door is what should be in the tires if you are running loaded.  I prefer the higher tire pressures because of less rolling resistance.  Also I do carry a load once in a while.

I have a compressor in the truck so I can air up when I load it. 50 psi is a rough ride but it does bump the mileage a bit?  Decisions decisions.
