Improving gas mileage?

Let me say first thing before some tells me to use the search function that I have already tried that.

I have a 06 4x4 2500 HD Silverado with a 6.0 auto with 4:10 gears in it. I knew it wasn't going to get good mileage right from the start but I had to buy what I could afford. The truck gets about 11 MPG around town and about 12.5 on the highway. What can I do to get even some what better mileage.

Less mashing the gas pedal with the right foot. and slower interstate speeds. I get about the same if not just 1mpg more in the city/hwy, but thats about it.

Hate to say it but it's about normal. I have a mileage tune from jesse and I am only getting a little better than that. I am going to wait out the gas prices here and see where diesel goes. I want a D/A really bad but just couldn't afford it at the time. I know it hurts but it's you will become numb to the pain in a bit.

I have a 1500 HD with a 6.0 with 3.73's and I get about 10 in the city and 13 on the highway. The only way your going to improve the gas mileage is park the SOB and dont drive it.

Dropping from 75 to 65 will get you 1 mpg at least. And driving's a lot easier when you don't have to pass anybody.

My 06 2500HD 4x4, regular cab with the 8.1 gets about 12mpg on the highway at 65mph. The allison has two OD gears...makes it cruise nice.

Combined overall mileage is 11.8. Is still new.

My 6.0 2500HD 4X4 Crew Cab averages 14-15 m.p.g with about 50/50 city/highway driving, and I've accepted this as the best I can do. I figured the only way I can do better than this, is start pushing the thing up and down the road every day.

Cheekster96,

Once that 8.1 breaks in you should be getting better than that with 2 OD gears. I get high 13's at 65 with one OD and stock size tires.

I can get 17.8mpg at 55mph. This has increased from 12.1mpg when I first bought it used with 19,000miles on it. I have gained the mileage by adding electric fans, K&N FIPK, removed the Mass air flow sensor screen, and added the performance tune. Any performance mod upgrade you have will add gas mileage if not used as a haul a$$ mod. The towing mileage with 6.0l will always be terrible. Try to avoid stop signs, stop lights, and expressways altogether, Even at 65mph 6.0l is a gas seive.

Thanks this is whay I was looking for. What to change to get at least some what better mileage.

ALarsh That won't work for me. I repo cars so I have to drive the truck.

dewfpo It's to late now for me to get the 8.1 and buying another truck right now is out of the question. But if I were I would go diesel.

In other words, do not drive and you'll save on fuel, and if you do drive, try to travel on unenforced city streets at 45mph?

A totally unrealistic scenario - wouldn't you say?

I have to agree that is unrealistic.
