Shift lever stiff, trouble selecting gear

Last few days, its been getting more difficult moving the shift lever. I dropped to first and it hung up there. Took alot of muscling and it finally let go back to park.

 

Sometimes it moves fine, and others it moves fine from park to neutral then gets stiff going into drive.

 

The tranny acts fine once I get the lever to where I want it.

 

It does not seem to be in the steering column or the cable, but at the tranny itself.

 

Any ideas???

Not sure if this will help but on my 05 1500 crew the shifter was getting very stiff. Some times it would go into gear and other times it wouldnt budge. After several times to the dealer they finally figured out it was freezing. They said there was a TSB on the cable. Something to do with water getting into it. You could try disconecting it and moving the shift bracket on the trans to see if its the cable or inside the trans. Water might have got into yours and caused some corrosion. Hope this helps.

Agreed on disconnecting the end at the trans. If the friction is still there, problem is in the column or cable, otherwise it is in the switch on the trans.
