Do I have keyless entry?

Recommended Posts

I bought a 1999 K2500 GMC Suburban SLT and it didnt come with any keyless door openers. I am fairly sure the truck originally did. Other than going to the dealer.....where do I look on the truck to see if I have the equipment that makes it work?

I have heard you can buy the controllers on Ebay and hold them under the dash and push the buttons at the same time and they will set themselves. Any truth to this?

Look on the glove compartment door at the RPO codes. If the code AU0 is there, it's equipped with keyless entry. On another note, on the left side of this page under Nav Links, go to the RPO guide. You should be able to find out what specifics your ride has with this guide!

I had the same issue. I went to my local Chevy Dealership and got the model # or whatever it's called on the back of the key fob that would work for my truck. Just give them your VIN # and they can tell you what type of fob you need.

Then if you want, you can look on ebay to see if there are any fobs out there with the number that works for your truck. If not, just get one from your dealership. Mine was $33 from my dealership. That wasn't much more than the prices I saw on ebay, so I just got it right there.

Do a search on fob or key fob on this forum. There's a thread somewhere that describes how to program it, it's really easy.

I have done this search and did not turn much up. I ordered a fob from Ebay, and followed the directions that came with the fob. It said something like turn the key run to off 2 times while holding down the unlock button, after its in program mode it will cycle the locks. I can not get to this point. Any help would be good.

This guy sells keyless entry remotes for Chevys. He should have information on how to program them for your vehicle

Here's the link to the directions I used --> http://www.spasticpuppy.net/keylessentry/

Try the method for, "old body style trucks". That might be the only way it will work on a 1999 Suburban per the author's comments in the 4th paragraph.

WOW....I went to my dealership and they wanted $66 for the fob and $42 to program it. I told them they needed to to step away from the crack pipe while at work. I will try Ebay
