I have been going back and forth for a while (honestly about a year). I need to vent rather than advice but more ideas is always nice. I have had my 00 silvy for all 6 years and the truck has been great.

It does have the cold start knock, went through 3 u-joints all at the rear yolk, 1 alternator (when it was 7,000 miles old) 2 sets of tires, 1 set of rear brakes with rotors. Fuel gauge is acting goofy and the auto 4wd switch needs replaced. Now the truck has a problem it can't over come. ROOM, 6 years ago a regular cab was perfect for me. Now with g/f in a different town 40 miles away I travel with a bag and her. It's just not enough room.

I hate, HATE to let this truck go. Little or no problems (89,000 miles) but this weekend was the last straw. We had a wedding in another town 80 miles away. So both of us our overnight gear, her dress my coat hanging up and the wedding gifts in the cab (it was raining and since I have a step side I have to take my soft cover completely OFF to get my ATV in, which wasn't with us but will be this weekend so I had the cover off). So the covers frame was off and I couldn't just button the cover down. So needless to say it was WAY cramped. Trying not to wrinkle a dress while have 2 bags, 2 hanging garments and 2 wedding presents wrapped in one regular cab (looked goofy).

Now, here's my dilemma. Get a new rig or wait. This time (lesson learned) plan for the future a little better. So I think I am going to crew cab (kids will be around in 5 years). What it needs to do - pull the Buick to the track and a car show every now and again. Roughly 4k not too heavy. Maybe a camper someday, if I ever buy one it will be a 5th wheel. Haul both of us and whoever else we can get to ride and get decent mileage. I have a short if nothing commute to work 2 miles, so a diesel does worry me a bit. The smell she hates and it wouldn't get warmed up I think.

So do I wait for the end of summer and get a 900 series? I really don't want a new truck with the exact same interior. So the 800 series is great it's the same thing over and over and over. Nothing wrong with it I am happy today but if I am going to get something new, it should be different I think anyway.

Dodge is okay my bro has had luck with his but she doesn't like the mega cab look or the quad cab size. The hemi at 345 hp is pretty fun to drive. But it's still a dodge, makes me nervous.

Ford has a great super duty look but the V10 gets 12 mpg. This would be plenty to do any pulling I ever want to do. The cab is nice the dash is ugly but I can deal with that the 05 and 06's don't look as bad. 6.0 I won't buy no way, even if the problems are worked out the reputation is so tarnished it'll never be worth anything down the road.

The F-150 could probably do what I want it too. But with only 300 ponies I would get spanked both my brothers’ hemi. It's bad enough with my 285. At least it's an aged nice fine wine in a pretty blue wrapper.

What to do? I mean ford is ok, I guess but the gas will suck. Then again I don't drive that much. We are going on a 1,000 mile trip this summer. Which the extra room would be priceless I think. She does live 40 miles away too. Or wait for the new versions but I HIGHLY doubt anyone will get a decent deal on those for a while. Plus first year anything is never a good idea.

Thoughts? Comments? :D

How about a 2006 Silverado Crew Cab, with the Vortec Max package? Should be able to get a much better deal on a 2006, and that new 6.0 liter is awesome! Plus, the interior on the new ones is different then what is in your 2000.

I'm in the same situation. I really want a new truck. Mine's an '00, and I really don't want the same interior. I wouldn't mind getting a dodge diesel, honestly. I've never had a dodge though. You won't get me in a new powerjoke. Depends on who has the best deal when I'm ready to buy.
