2000 silverado won't shift out of park

I parked my 2000 silverado on a hill to unload some brush from the bed. After unloading, I can not get the transmission to shift out of park.

Any suggestions?

How steep of a hill, did you use your e-brake when you parked?

I am not sure of the grade but the front tires are approximately 8 inches higher than the rear tires.

I did not use the emergency brake when I parked.

You might want to next time....it helps keep the weight off the 'park pin' (if that's what it is called now-a-days).

Try turning the wheel left and right while attempting to shift out of park. It may help.

Patrick.

After digesting your post for a little while, I decided to hook the tractor up to it and put a little pressure on the front end using a tow strap. It came right out of park as it normally does.

Thanks :happysad:

Put blocks behind your wheels front and rear. Crawl under there and find the linkage to the tranny (Rubber boot around a small cable) It will be ball detent that will just pull off if you pull toward the frame rail. Take a dead blow hammer and tap the lever to release the parking pin. You see the truck roll a fuzz. Get back in your truck and set the parking brake. Put the linkage back on (will snap back on) and climb in the truck, start it and put it in gear before releasing the parking break and you should be good to go. It may not want to pop out of gear when you tap it. Don't force it. You may have to have someone push you a few inches to get it to release.
