abs module died, help

Well, my abs module is bad and the dealer thinks it is worth two truck payments or one mortgage payment, has any body had their's go bad on a 1999 2500 4x4 silverado? And can anybody help out with a cheaper fix other than just leaving it broke??, Let me know what you all think , Could this be a recall due to dealing with the brakes?  thanks in advance.

The ABS module failure is unfortunatly one of the big gremlins on the '99 model trucks.

 

It seems that with alot of complaining to GM that most owners out of warranty have been able to swing a deal with the dealer on price.  Hopefully the dealer is on your side and will help you out on this issue.  Tell him you know about the module failures on the '99 and early '00 trucks and ask him to contact the area rep.

thanks for the link on the part, does anybody know if they are all the same? I have the 2500 4x4 .  would hate to get stuck with the wrong part. thanks Mike

What do the brakes do when they go bad?  How do you know when the module is bad?  Thanks.

Brake and ABS light on cluster light up.  ABS doesn't work.

The ABS pump motor also runs continuously, forcing you to have to pull the fuse to shut it off (and I definitely recommend pulling the fuse over unplugging the module - replacing weatherpak terminals under there isn't fun).
