Stabilitrack or G80 rear locker?

Recommended Posts

As I understand it, you can only get one or the other for 2003 (Stabilitrack or the rear locking diff.).  Which would you get and why? Would you bother with Autoride or is it just another gimmick?

Thanks for the input,

What exactly is the "stabilitrack" option.

I know there is a system out there that uses the ABS components to provide traction control. When it senses a wheel spinning it applies the brake for that wheel to transfer the power to the other drive wheels, if a mechanical locker were in place it would probably not be able to control the power transfer, that may be why it's a "one or the other" type choice. The ABS parts are all there anyway, you're probably just paying for some extra programming in the anti-lock ECU. How much is that option?

it sounds to me like one of those things that sound great on paper, but how will it actually work, and for how long.

that sounds too high tech for me to be comfortable with it, and if the G80 locker is the same Gov-lock unit from the past I wouldn't want it either. I would buy the truck with the single track rear, and buy a good Eaton posi unit for it. It works, it'll last, and you can fix it if you do break it, but that's just my opinion.

The G80 locker isn't the Gov-lock of the older trucks.  The new generation trucks/suvs have a new Eaton posi-locker in them and are an extreme improvement over the old unit.  Definately get the G80 IMO, it is a great option and help alot with traction both on and off road.

buying the factory G80 locker, if they have improved it, would prevent some possible warranty issues that might arise if you bought without and had an aftermarket unit installed.
