Cold Start Knock

I've had the driveline clunk, I've had the occasional 2nd gear start. I've had the transmission replaced at 30,000 miles because a carrier bearing failed. I thought I was lucky and the cold start knock was going to miss me. But today a 40,000 miles it started. It sounds like a main bearing knocking to me. Almost sounds like a diesal. It's a hollow sounding knock. My truck is a 2001 with the 5.3.

 

Anyone had any luck getting this resolved?. I don't want any extended warranty because I won't live this sound even it doesn't damage the engine. If I can't get this fixed I'll trade the truck for sure.

If anyone has any advice or info please let me know.

My 2001 4.8 does the same thing on cold start up.. It doesnt last more than 10-15 secs though. I dont think its something as drastic as a main bearing though... Ive also had my transmission replaced... It went out at around 14000 miles... 2nd band was burned up and first was gettin that way. But anyway, as far as the knocking goes its probably something rather simple.
