difference between 05 and 06 1/2 tons

Im looking to buy a new pickup pretty soon (1/2 ton Chevy 4x4 ext. cab)

 

A friend of mine said that the 06 trucks have been redesigned. I thought that these trucks have been pretty much the same from 99-2006, and the re-design will be for the 07 trucks.

 

If they are different, can someone please break down the main differences between an 06 and 05 pickup?

Nope, `05 have electric fans and larger front brakes, although this only started in the late production, cause some came with 16" wheels, then they came with 17" wheels.

There is a certain VIN that this starts with where the larger brakes were put on.

Not much diff on the `06 too my knowledge.

All '05 1/2-ton pickups have the 17" wheels and bigger front brakes (Calipers and Rotors were upsized) This is why 17" wheels were required,to clear the calipers.

 

On the '06 1/2-tons the biggest difference from '05 was the addition of the "Domed Hood" like the "HD's" had for '05,along with the grille and upper front bumper pad painted body color on the uplevel trucks.

 

For '07 GM will be building the current style trucks (GMT800) up to December of this year,They will be '07 model year trucks refered to as the "Classic" Silverado or Sierra.

After that the all-new (GMT900) Silverado/Sierra trucks will be built.
