Towing Harness

I just bought a 2005 1500HD. It has the factory reciever and harness. I am not measuring 12.00v between + & -. I have all the other voltages. I looked for a fuse but could not find a blown one. I also could not tell which one is for that line. Any help would be appreciated.

Glen, I have the same problem with my 2005 2500HD 4x4. It too has the factory receiver and harness. I am not getting any voltage between the "+" and "-". Everything else works OK. I have not found a blown fuses either and did look in both the fuse blocks.

Sounds like we both need help!

I'm not sure where you guys are measuring the voltage at but I have a similar problem. I just bought an 07 K1500 and plugged in the brake controller harness that came in the glovebox. I wired it (properly) to a new brake controller and it would not work. I poked around with a multimeter and found that where it was supposed to have +12 I was only getting 3.22 volts. I checked all the fuses and connections and found nothing wrong. I decided that the easy fix was to just find another 12V source under the dash and run that to the controller. That worked but it just bugs me that for some reason....there was not voltage where there was supposed to be.

If you guys are talking about the 12v at the plug for the ability to charge the battery on the trailer. Then you need to look at the fuse block under the hood

and check to see if the dummy fuse has been replaced with an actual fuse.

I think it is stud #1 or #2. It will have a red dummy fuse in it. Just replace that

with a real fuse (30amp maxi fuse, I think) and that should fix your problem.

There was indeed a dummy fuse/plug in "stud #1" I picked up a fuse and installed it and it did indeed fix my problem. Thanks for the help.
