again, i'm a mustang guy and have had this truck for a only a couple weeks, so excuse my ignorance. i'm wondering what rear i have in my truck (02 silverado with the 4.8) and what my options are for building it. what do the chevy trucks respond to the best? locker or posi? i have a eaton posi in my mustang and love it. what about axels?

thanks for your help

Have a look in your glove box....listed there are a bunch of codes.

Your axle ratio and type of axle will be listed there.

For a list of codes, check out:

For example, a 3.73 axle would be code 'GT4', while a locking diff code is 'G80'.

Good luck!

"Mine" has a stock 3.73 Eaton POSI, the previous owner says it works great. For serious offroading I would bet that nothing works better than a nice ARB Airlocker. Does gearing need to be changed if you go with bigger wheels and tires(as in the size for a lift kit, so I guess 35-38)?

It's my understanding for that size you'll have to go a 4.10.

My opinion of course.

The PCM would definitely have to be 'told' there's different size tires. ;)

There are all kinds of ratio/tire swap calculators out there 35's could probably get away with 4.10's 38's you are going to need 4.56 or 4.88's or you can just have no power theres always give and take have fun
