Good Deal on Revos

I just thought I’d let anybody not already aware know that there is a buy 3, get 1 free sale going on now at Firestone Compete Auto Care for Dueler tires. I just bought a set of P265/75R16 Revos (they are on order and I’ll get them installed Friday) for $459.99 plus tax and alignment. This works out to $115 per tire installed! I think the sale is good until the end of the month.

Sounds good, but if I may make a suggestion, you may wish to upgrade your tire to an LT rated tire instead of the P. I found when I swapped the p-rated Wilderness AT's out for the LT rated Revo's in the same size, that the ride was a drastic improvement.

The ride was improved how? Less bumpy or was the ride firmer? I was considering going to LT rated myself.

Well, considering I already bought the tires, hopefully the P rated will be ok! I seriously considered LTs, but was talked out of it by pretty much everyone. Considering the LTs are about $25 more per tire and will probably make my gas mileage suffer (at least in town due to the extra weight), I decided not to spend the extra $. I like the way the truck rides with the Wilderness A/Ts and I can’t imagine the Revos being any worse. Plus, I don’t tow anything over 1000 lbs and rarely carry much of a payload. Hopefully I’ll be happy with my choice!

LT's effect gas milage? How does that work? The only differnece should be a little thicker. I'm about to switch from P to LT myself. I'll have to expiriement a little.

My mileage went up about 1mpg after switching from P to LT tires (Probably due to the higher PSI I run them at). I do very, very little stop & go driving though.

LTs are thicker and heavier tires = more rotational mass. For city driving, they will lower MPG because the engine has to overcome the extra weight spinning around the hubs when you take off. On the highway, if you run at higher pressure, this results in lower rolling resistance (at the expense of a harsher ride) and better gas mileage. My commute is 3 miles. Therefore, I figure LTs will cost me money in fuel economy. If you drive all highway, LTs may be cheaper in terms of fuel economy.
