Nice spread in Truck Trend today about the new 2007 GM trucks. Small side bar says the folllowing about the HD's:

"...Expect the 6.0L V8 and 6.6L Duramax to be the only engines offered for next year, but there may be a big change coming for the next model year"

Hmmmmm, the long rumored demise of the Big Block may be upon us people. Sad for sure.

That sucks. IMHO the 8.1L is the best gasser GM produces, or any other brand for that matter. I just don't like the fact of a tuned 6.0L replacing the BBL. I imagine that is the course they are taking. No replacement for displacement.

That is correct. No big block in the GMT980's. Expect a supercharged 6.2L with a boat load more power. Not torque....but HP. Of course, you will have to spin it up to 5500 RPM's to squeeze the HP out of it but it will be there. RIP>>>8.1L

Is it me, or do the GMC's look suspeciously like the Super Duty's? Don't get me wrong, I like the looks of both the Chevy and GMC...

Wonder what the "big change for the next model year" might be? V-10? Or Supercharged as Larry states?

I've always said I really like my 04 Big Block CC, and had planned on keeping a while. I guess I'm going to be keeping longer than I thought...

^^When did you get the new truck?

A month ago on the "72 Hour Sale" with 0% financing. You have to look close, or at the sig, because I snagged the wheels and tires off of my other truck. From a distance it looks alot like it. Just a Chevy instead. I love the LBZ.

I wonder why they would kill off our beloved rat motor?  Gov't regulations on gas mileage?  :banghead:

I've heard that the 8.1 will not meet the new EPA emission regs that go into effect Jan 1 2007. I could be wrong...please correct me if Im' wrong, but that's what I remember.

Some have said a V-10 is in the works(?) Easier to make work with emissions. Who knows? (and if you do, please tell us...)

I wouldn't bury the big block yet....wait until 08 and see what happens. If you remember, when they changed models to the NBS in 2000, they discontinued the 7.4L (454) but hadn't brought out the 8.1 yet. 2001 was the first year for the 8.1.

Regardless of whether or not they put the 8.1 in trucks, GM will still make them, there is huge market for them in marine (502 version), motorhome/truck chassis, and industrial applications.

I wonder if they set the new Suburban up to accept the DuraMax at some point?

I heard the reason the Dmax never made it into current 2500 Suburban models was that the Allison would not fit. They did not want to do a detuned Dmax with the 4L80E. Not sure if it is true or not but that is what I heard.

My cousin had a 2000 SRW 3500. It was the late 90's body style and most certainly had the 454 engine.
