Good day All. I have a 06 Sierra Crew, 4.8L. My question: Has anyone experienced a voltage drop, momentarily dimming of the dasboard, headlights, when activating the power windows or if the a/c compressor kicks in? The dealer is telling me that the alternator is programmed through the PCM to have a delay before the voltage increases. When this happened on my old '98 Jeep, the Jeep dealer stated the voltage relay was bad, replaced, and the annoying dimming was fixed. GM is now stating this is normal and expected. It is agravating.

Sounds like a load of s**t to me. Anyone really think the General would sell a product that did something that obviously annoying? I'd find a new dealer.

I have been wondering if the elect fans would cause this on the '05 and '06 trucks. If I am not mistaken, the e fans come on when the compressor comes on. These fans hit the alternator pretty hard and I would think could cause some dimming, especially at idle when the alt is not at full capacity.

Just a thought.

My truck does the same thing if I try to close an already closed window. The dip is about 5-10% in magnitude when the headlights are on, but is noticeable. There is inrush current when you start a motor or power the electric clutch in the AC unit. That is physics, and there is nothing that can be done. I think we will have to learn to live with it. A minor irritation to me....
