Ventshade vent coming off

Recommended Posts

I have "Ventshade" vents on my driver and passenger windows. My drivers side tape has started to come off and am wondering if I can take the whole thing off, use some goof-off type cleaner to get the old tape off and find some double sided sticky tape to put it back on, or do I need to buy a new one? Has anybody tried this?

Yes, I did this with a set on my grandpas camry. The old tape peeled right off didnt need any remover.

Do you think any type of double sided tape will work ie wal-mart...or is a special weatherproof type I should get from an auto parts store if they even have it?

Ive tried to remove them on 3 of my trucks, and even though they are already separating, I've broken 2 out of the 3 trying to remove them. I even tried a heat gun prior to pulling. Maybe I just have bad luck :gmc:

If you get 2 sided tape, I would stick the with 3M brand. Usually I don't go dropping big coin in the top brands, but this is a case where if you want it to hold, I'd suggest using 3M and only 3M. I dont remember if they have different "models" if you will that hold up to a certain weight, just make sure you get something that holds a decent amount of weight and you shouldn't ever have a problem. Just my 2 cents and limited experience :gmc:

I had the same thing happen to me. I sent an e-mail to ventshade and they sent me replacement double sided tape at their expense. I was impressed with their level of customer service to say the least. Check their website, their e-mail is there.

My bet is that that for what ever that trip to wal mart cost you, you could have bought a new set of ventshades along with a hood sheild to match. :gmc:

I never can go in there and get just the item that I am looking for. Those guys are marketing magicians.

The best tape for this, is by 3M. It's called VHB tape, doublesided, same stuff body shops use for moldings! Most auto shops will have it.

I just cheated a lil' on my 94's visor...it was just coming loose at the fron corner so I just used superglue on a toothpick and put it on the tape itself and viola!

If it comes off again...I guess new ones will go back on but, they'll be chrome

You know, a free rool of tape and shipping gives them a customer for life...hellwig sway bar pissed me off to no end. It's amazing how much a little bit goes a long way!
