Is there a way to hook your iPod into the factory head unit(Single CD) possibly using the AUX button on the head unit? Id like to get away from my FM transmitter unit. Is there a wiring harness available somewhere? Or, is it a matter of making up the wiring myself? TIA

Hey Matt,

I am looking into doing the same thing. I have an '05 Silverado and the best thing I have seen so far is from a local audio store. It's called peripheral. Its about $160. I am still looking around though. There was a local store that told me they had a better way to connect, I haven't made it down there yet but I will over the weekend. I'll let you know what I find out. They said it was a GM product. Anyway, if you find something that you like then let me know so I can check it out.

I think our stereos are different animals. I've heard the 03 and up went to a different stereo all together from the earlier trucks. I wanted to install an 03+ 6 disc changer H/U in my truck, but it apparently will not work. For one, the earlier H/U{02 and earlier} are 1.5 DIN, and the later ones are 2 DIN width.

Any info you pass on would be much appreciated. Good luck in your search.

this should work just fine. pie gm9-aux. it fits 98 to 02 trucks. you can also add another cable that will charge up your ipod and do a couple other things. jpcustoms also has one---#USA-PA11-GM45.

I have the USA-PA11-GM45 in my '02 Tahoe. Works pretty good. Easy to install. Didn't get it from jpcustoms, I think you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Pardon my ignorance,,,,but what is pie- & USA- ?

Who are the mfgs?

Best, least expensive place to get these units?

""I think you can find it cheaper elsewhere"" Where?

Thank you very much in advance.

I am looking for the same thing. From what I've seen, those adapters are not compatible with my radio. My radio is the 2001 AM/FM/Single CD. It sounds like I would need a radio that has an external portion, such as a separate cassette player or a CD changer.

FWIW, I found the PA11-GM45 and the PIE GM-9AUX, both said the same thing.

I don't really feel like opening my dash just to see if I have the nine-pin connector on it.

Does anyone know if I have it worng?

Any other options?

Yes - your radio has the 9-pin connector on the back. All those style radios do.

www.usaspec.com and www.pie.net

I got mine off ebay for around $100 brand new.

I have the USA-PA11. Only thing I don't like is my truck has to be running or it won't let the ipod play.

I have a 2001 Silverado with factory head unit (AM/FM/CD) and a auxillary tape unit. I wanted fully sound from my iPod, so I installed an Ipod2car interface from Peripheral Electronics. This interface connects directly to your factory radio and allows you to listen and control your iPod through the audio system and and it also charges the iPod battery when connected.

I had to buy Ipod2car interface (pn#PXDP) and specific vehicle cable (pn#PXHGM1) to hook to the 9 pin connector on the head-unit. I bought both on ebay for less than $50 and it really rocks. Now you the EQ settings on the iPod and you'll have more sound than you ever experience from your OEM radio. :D
