New Ford Diesel

The reason Ford is coming out with the newer engine is they couldnt pass emissions that start 1/07. GM's Duramax will with some modifications and will start production 1/07

So will the 07 classis trucks have the current Duramax in them or the revised duramax.

It would have to be the revised engine to pass federal emmisions. The '07 duramax is about 1K more than the '06 so that probably covers their R&D to mod the engine. I still would like to see how the ford performs along with fuel economy. They seem to be talking it up but wont give many details. Might be interesting.

The last trucks to be built with a Duramax will be 9/30/06 and until 1/07 no MFR can build/sell a Diesel. This is to purge the current 500ppm sodium fuel out of the fuel tanks. No 07 vehicles can run on the must have the low sodium.

Sorry but I am a bit lost. I understand they will not make them, but does that mean you cannot purchase them?

From 10/06 until 1/1/07 no sales of diesels so the high sulphur can be purged out of all the fuel tanks in the country. The MFR's will probably be starting to build diesels late in December for sale after January 07

The word i got is that anyone owning a 2007 will not be able to go to Mexico since their fuel is high sulphur and using the high sulphur will ruin the emissions systems.

Anyone notice on the banner ad. on top of the Ford diesel link a picture of the new Silverado and it has an all painted to match front bumper?

I think diesels are a good way to go for larger trucks and suv's. The problem is, diesel is at or above gasoline prices, so they had better get great milage out of them.

260 hp 5.6L and you will have to pay $7-8K for the diesel option, not worth it when the current truck has 295-310 hp and gets 18-20 hwy.

The new emissions will raise the diesel option 2-3000k on top of the $6000 already charged and diesel fuel will go up another 10 cents along with a 1 mpg decrease in fuel economy.

How many years and miles will it take to recoupe the added cost. My thinking well over 100000 mi.

There is no way I would trust Ford with that new engine after the 6.0 liter Powerstroke fiasco. Give it about three years to work out most of the bugs.

The same may be true for the new GM diesels.

If the diesel horsepower wars on heavy duty trucks continue, pretty soon we'll see something this size: large diesel
