Hi, Newb here, and just had a question. I have a 2006 Chevy Tahoe, with just the factory am FM CD double din deck. I want to replace it with a factory Navigation system.

i know that I would have to add the antenna, my question is, is the GPS module built into the deck to be able to get navi? How do you load the Navi CD data? Is the wiring plug n pray? Or can this not be done?

thanks

Do you have Bose? It will be very difficult if not.

I assume you mean GPS antenna when you say "GPS module". The answer is no. The GPS antenna is a separate piece. It installs under the dash forward and to the right of the head unit.

How do you load the Navi CD data?
The nav head unit has a slot for a disc. You must also obtain a map DVD. Note that the head unit can only do one thing at a time, either navigation while the map DVD is loaded, or CD audio when you have an audio CD loaded. You must add a CD changer to be able to do both at the same time.

The Tahoes with Bose have the non-lux head unit and amp. You have to decide if you want to stay with non-lux or upgrade to lux. For non-lux, all you would have to do is install a non-lux nav head unit, GPS antenna, and optionally hook up the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire. If you go with lux, you would need to get a lux head unit, you still have to install the GPS antenna and optional VSS wire, and you also have to get a lux amp and modify the amp wiring. In either case, if you get a used nav unit, you'll have to get the dealer to program the VIN into it. Brand new units "adopt" the VIN of the first vehicle they are installed in.

The head units are plug and play, except for the lone VSS wire (well, some say that the wire is already there in some vehicles -- I suspect it is there on models where nav is a factory option). If you upgrade to the lux amp, or add the CD changer, wiring changes are required.
