Can't Access Spare Tire

Hi, I just bought a used 04 Yukon Denali. Anyhow, I was just checking out some of the features and decided to try to access the spare tire. According to the owners manual, the ignition key should be able to unlock the lock to the spare tire. When I tried, the key wouldn't budge at all. When I asked the guy I bought the truck off of, he said he never actually had tried to access the spare and suggested to put some WD-40. After a few tries I gave up. Anybody else have this problem or have suggestions? I know it sounds stupid, but it felt like if i kept trying to turn the key, it'd break off. Thanks in advance!

Were you spraying the WD-40 into the clock mechanism or around the edges? The reason I ask is if I recall the key turns the entire assembly and you then pull it out. So the WD-40 could be a good thing but you need to spray it in a different location.

Have a nice day.

Thanks I'll give it a try! I also noticed, maybe someone jammed something in? It seems as if the key doesn't go in completely... any other suggestions? (Besides going to a locksmith or dealership =D ) In any case, thanks for the help, this is a great forum!
