power windows

I've got a 89 GMC Sierra, regular cab, 4x4, with a 350. It has power windows and power locks, however neither feature works. The drivers side window will work when it chooses, but there is no rhyme or reason as to when it does. The passenger window on the other hand doesn't work at all. I've pulled the switches and checked for power with a test light. I've even gone as far as to jump the wires to make sure the motor is working correctly and to make sure the wiring is correct. Here's my issue. When i had the switch off, the only way I could make the window motor was to jump some of the connections right too ground, which to me makes it seem like the switch isn't getting a good ground. I've tried a good switch, to no avail. My question is, where does the wire harness that comes into the doors come from. I see that once it comes back into the cab (from the doors) it goes under the kick pannel. Im thinking I have a grounding issue, and I believe the power locks, and power windows are all grounding in the same place which is cauing me too loose all functions. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the ground, or better yet provide me with a diagram that shows the wiring for the doors? Any and all help is appriciated.

thanks

I have seen wires break in the grommet between the door and the body. It is almost alway on the left because that door open much more than the right. The rubber grommet just pulls out of the door and body. Check your wires good. Pull on them fairly hard. I have seen the wires break inside the insulation.
