I don't get involved in modifications so I can't help ya. You're probably looking at several thousand dollars if it could even be done. For that kind of money, I'd just reach down and move the shift lever. :nopity:

Besides, there's something satisfying in hearing that gear shift lever go CLUNK, and then the lights come on and everybody's happy! Oh yeah, and neutral is easier to get into as well if you have to be towed.

I can't believe you are even cntemplating doing this. A lever on the floor is much more reliable. Would you convert to a pushbutton automatic transmission shifter just because it was available? chrysler made cars in the 60's with pushbutton auto tranmsissions and they gave it up after a few years as they were nothing but a bfg headache for the owners. The buttons were always sticking and transmissions would not go in or out of gear.

Personally, I would prefer a manual transfer case over comlicated auto version any day.

To answer your question, yes it can be done. Is it worth the cash? No way. GM-Tech is absolutely right (as usual), you would definitely be better off (more cost effective) buying a different truck IMHO.

The manual shifter has a better history of less going wrong....

I'd keep the manual shifter and put that money into some truly worthwhile upgrades. :)

Plus its a lot easier to accidently put it in 4wd with the push button...kinda hard to hit the shifter and move it...
